Demons cannot take on flesh -- there is nowhere in the Bible that says that they can. Of course we know that angels, both heavenly and fallen, can appear in human form, but they remain spirit beings only.

The Bible speaks of angels of light (2 Corinthians ) and fallen angels (2 Peter ; Jude ). Angels perform different tasks in the Bible. Some angels are God’s messengers (Daniel ). Other angels are servants of God (Psalm ; Hebrews ; Psalm ). “Watcher angels” are mentioned in the book of Daniel (Daniel , 17, 23). But it was wrong for angels to do that. Like those wicked angels, most humans at that time became corrupt and violent. Jehovah then decided to destroy wicked humans by flooding the whole earth. But he saved his faithful servants. (Genesis , 23) To survive, the wicked angels returned to heaven. The Bible calls those wicked angels demons.

The Bible says the struggle will reach a climax in the future, just before Jesus Christ returns to Earth. In Revelation , the Bible tells how Michael and the angels he supervises will defeat Satan and the other rebellious angels during the world's end time. The Bible tells us that demons are fallen angels who joined Satan in his rebellion against God and who were defeated and cast out of heaven along with Satan (Revelation ). Demons continue to serve the devil in his attempt to lead the world away from God and into sin.

Jesus will ultimately banish Satan and his demons into the eternal fire. C.S. Lewis wrote, “There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils.

One is to disbelieve in their existence, and the other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them.” 1 If our society struggles to keep God’s angels in their rightful place, then the struggle to properly understand demons is no less real.
